Origin of the 'Big Idea'
An article about 'Well Dressings' in the W.I. Life magazine (Guest edited by Sandon W.I.), had sparked an idea that maybe in 2012, (Diamond Jubilee year) Broughton W.I. might organise a well dressing at one of our many local wells.
The Committee put the proposal to W.I. members in June 2011 and it was agreed to pursue the idea. Ros and Ken Langford did a pre-meeting visit to a 'well-dressing in-the-making' at Little Longstone in Derbyshire to acquire insight into the planning, materials required, and techniques used. Photos of her visit are shown below. A planning sub-committee was formed and it was decided that the Well Dressing would be staged on Saturday 7th July 2012, and the theme for the well dressing wiould be ' The Woodland Quarter', celebrating the beautiful environment in which we are priviledged to live.
